13 -yr-old Filipina ice skating whiz returns, brings home 20 medals

A 13 -year-old Filipino skater who bagged 20 medals, 11 of which are gold, from four competitions in the United States arrived in the Philippines Thursday morning.
Anna Isabel "Issai" Villafuerte brought home 11 gold, six silver and three bronze medals after competing for three months in the US.
"Hindi ko talaga ini- expect. Noong una, sabi ko kahit isa lang tapos sunud-sunod na," she said.
Villafuerte is the first Filipino ice skater to get an accreditation from the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA), the official governing body for the sport of figure skating in America.
USFSA is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and the International Skating Union.
Villafuerte was only eight years old when she showed interest in figure skating. She first competed in Skate Asia 2006 in Shenzhen, China where she won seven medals. Almost 2 ,000 figure skaters competed in Shenzhen.
Villafuerte said she hopes that someday figure skating will also become a popular sport in the Philippines.
"Hindi por que walang winter dito hindi na pwede. Basta gustuhin lang natin. Alam ko sisikat din ang mga Filipino kung hindi man sa skating sa ibang field kasi magagaling tayo," she said.
Next in the Filipina Ice Princess' agenda is the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.-abs-cbnNEWS.com
