DAGUPAN CITY - Former health secretary Jaime Galvez-Tan has revealed that the medicinal plant "sambong" (Blumea balsamifera) can ward off kidney stones that can be caused by prolonged intake of melamine-contaminated milk and milk products from China.
Tan, a herbalist, said that sambong is rich in camphor oil, which can dissolve kidney stones.
The former health chief told a gathering of mothers and local health workers here that two glasses of water boiled with sambong leaves can actually cure kidney problems and other related illnesses.
On Friday, the Bureau of Food and Drugs released a partial list of milk and other milk products undergoing testing for possible melamine contamination.
