Philippine Long Distance Telephone Corp (PLDT) expands its mobile call and text services to Italy through agreements signed recently.
PLDT's global services arm, PLDT Global, signed deals with Hutchison Global Communication and H3G S.p.A. for a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) venture branded as "SMART Pinoy."
The new mobile phone service will offer affordable rates for international calls and SMS from Italy to the Philippines, using the mobile commerce platform of Smart Communications, Inc., PLDT's mobile company.
"SMART Pinoy" service in Italy will include electronic loading, sharing of prepaid airtime credits, and popular services in Italy such as video calling and video streaming.
Remittance via mobile phone services will be available in the future, PLDT said in a statement.
PLDT is currently offering "Smart Pinoy" in Hongkong and Singapore.
