Versatile actor Yul Servo won two best actor awards at the 35th Brussels International Independent Film Festival Monday morning.
Servo was named best actor for his performances in Viva Films' "Torotot" directed by Maryo J. de los Reyes and 2008 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival's official entry "Brutus" directed by Tara Illenberger.
Illenberger's Brutus, meanwhile, grabbed the Best Asian Film award.
The good news was confirmed by de los Reyes through a text message.
De los Reyes added: "(Singer) Orlando Sol wows international audience with his French rendition of Jacques Brel's Impossible Dream. Bravo Philippines! We made it again."
Servo went up the stage to accept his award. According to movie writer Robert Silverio, a longtime confidante of Servo, the actor cried like a child when he received the trophy and delivered his acceptance speech.
Servo has also won the same plum in the Brussels film event for his sterling performances in internationally acclaimed Filipino director Lav Diaz's "Batang Westside" and de los Reyes's "Naglalayag." In Naglalayag, Servo acted alongside superstar Nora Aunor.
Servo, John Marvin Nieto in real life, left for Brussels last week to attend, by special invitation, the film festival together with de los Reyes and Sol.
He took a leave of absence from his post as councilor of the first district of Manila.
Silverio said the actor made sure that he met all his commitments first before he went abroad.
"Siniguro rin ni Yul na talagang mananalo siya dahil malakas ang kanyang kutob. Ito ang handog niya sa Pilipinas. Ito ang pasalubong niya sa Manila City Hall," said Silverio.-abs-cbnnews.com
