DSWD provides continuing assistance to LGUs affected by TS Falcon

The DSWD continues the provision of augmentation assistance to the local government units (LGUs) affected by tropical storm “Falcon” in Regions III, IV-A, V, and National Capital Region, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman today said.

As of 3:00 p.m. today, more than 67,330 families with 330,095 persons were affected by TS Falcon. Of these, approximately 12,129 families—53,892 persons—are being served in the 115 evacuation centers in Regions NCR (76), IV-A (9), V (5), and III (25). The evacuees were provided family food packs and non-food items, such as blankets and mats. Meanwhile, the 4,219 families with 18,492 persons that opted to stay outside evacuation centers are also being provided with food and non-food commodities.

“The assistance for ‘Falcon’ victims worth P1,862,687.00 were from the combined resources of the DSWD (P423,750.00), LGUs (P1,263,937.00), and NGOs/other GOs (P175,000.00),” Secretary Soliman stated.

The DSWD is also assisting the LGUs affected by the flashfloods brought by Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) that occurred in May 22 to June 6, particularly ravaging Region XII wherein, 77,640 families with 388,193 persons from the 191 barangays, 15 municipalities, two cities and three provinces were affected by the flooding.

Rest assured, the DSWD is continuously repacking and distributing relief goods in evacuation centers to augment the supply of the LGUs.

“We facilitate the massive repacking of relief goods at Cotabato City and Koronadal City operations centers,” Secretary Soliman stated.

To facilitate better management of the evacuation centers, the DSWD distributes family cards to the victims “to ensure that each family gets their food packs,” Secretary Soliman added.

To date, cost of assistance provided to Region XII reached P14,166,938, sourced from the combined resources of the DSWD (P11,243,260.00), LGUs (P2,592,428.00), and NGOs/other GOs (P331,250.00).

Meanwhile, Secretary Soliman requests donations of clothing items, which are essentially needed by the families displaced by tropical storm Falcon.

“Aside from commodities like potable water, these families also need clothing and other non-food items like blankets and mats.

“The drop-off for the donations is at the DSWD – National Resource Operations Center (NROC), with telephone numbers851-2681 and 852-8081,” Secretary Soliman explained.

The NROC is located at Chapel Road, Pasay City (back of Air Transportation Office).
