DSWD allocates P59 M assistance for LGUs hit by typhoon “Juaning”

Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman today said that the DSWD has standby funds worth P2.5 million and relief supplies worth P57.2 million allocated in eight regions, namely: CAR, I, II, III, IV-A, IV-B, V and NCR, which are along the path of typhoon “Juaning.”

The DSWD has already provided P9.28 million worth of relief assistance to Region V.

As of July 27, 6:00 a.m. some 15,395 families with 69,649 persons were affected by floods and heavy rains from the 127 barangays, 14 municipalities, five cities and three provinces in Region V.

Eighty-four evacuation centers remain open serving 11,482 families with 50,002 persons.  Affected families outside evacuation centers are also being provided with relief assistance.

In Sorsogon, some 261 passengers were stranded at the different ports and bus terminals in the municipalities of Pilar, Matnog, and Bulan.  They are being assisted by concerned local government units.

Further, some 12 barangays in Naga City were submerged in water. Sixty families are presently staying in the evacuation center where they are being provided with hot meals and relief packs.

In Region IV-A, some 171 families with 904 persons were affected from the five barangays of Mulanay, Quezon. An evacuation center was set-up providing temporary shelter to 33 families with 197 persons, while 138 family-victims with 707 persons opted to stay with relatives. The DSWD social workers continue to assist social workers from affected LGUs in managing the evacuation centers.

“We are also awaiting reports from our DSWD Field Offices for augmentation assistance to LGUs along the path of typhoon “Juaning,” Secretary Soliman disclosed.
