Road safety this Holy Week

Taking the long weekend entailed
by this coming Holy Week into
consideration, it is expected that a
lot of motorists are going to hit
the road for a peaceful break
with their families and friends.
Thus, in preparation for this, the
Philippine Red Cross (PRC)
reminds everyone about its 10
Road Safety Commitments for the
motorists' reference, in order to
ensure the public's safety:
I COMMIT TO:
- Use a seatbelt
- Wear a helmet on a motorcycle
- Drive at a safe speed and
distance suitable for the
conditions
- Not drive under the influence of
alcohol or drugs
- Not use a mobile phone when
driving
- Be visible as a pedestrian or
cyclist
- Know and respect the highway
code
- Maintain my vehicle in a good
condition
- Be licensed and trained for the
vehicle I drive
- Know how to react in case of a
car crash
"Everyone has a responsibility to
make the public roads a safe
place for everybody—this is what
we are trying to uphold in this
campaign. We are inviting
everyone to do their fair share in
promoting road safety by
committing themselves in making
the roads safe not only for
themselves, but for others as
well," PRC Chairman Richard J.
Gordon said.
He added, "This aims to protect
everyone in their daily lives and
encourage everyone to set a
good example."
