Bicol posts 84.31% downtrend in crime incidence since ECQ started

CAMP GENERAL SIMEON OLA, Legazpi City, Mar. 23 (PIA) – Crime incidents in Bicol region decreased by at least 84.31% since the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) started last March 17, 2020, as a precautionary measure to contain, control and prevent the spread of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Police Brigadier General Anthony S Alcañeses, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) regional director said that compared to last year, only 8 incidents were recorded under its 8 focused crime operations from March 17 to March 21, an 84.31% lower to 51 recorded crime incidents in the same period.

Alcañeses attributed the downtrend to the strict implementation of the quarantine along with the different police operations being undertaken by PRO-5 against person who might take advantage of the situation.

Among recorded incidents from March 17, to March 21, are 2 rape cases in the provinces of Albay and Masbate -  an 84.62 % lower compared last year with 13 recorded cases; one murder incident; 1 homicide and 4 physical injuries in the province of Camarines Sur and 1 theft incident in Naga City.

Alcañeses noted that PNP Bicol remains resolute in performing its duties to ensure peace and order in the community amid the threats of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, according to Alcañeses, a total of 57 individuals has been arrested for resisting and disobeying checkpoints during the implementation of ECQ from March 18 to March 21.

On March 18, at least 20 individuals had been arrested for resistance and disobedience or the Revised Penal Code Article 151 in the provinces of Sorsogon and Masbate while 11 individuals has been arrested on March 19 for the same violation in the provinces of Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte and Albay.

On March 20, there are 9 individuals arrested in the provinces of Sorsogon, Masbate and Albay while one March 21, there are 13 individuals violated and 4 has been arrested for violating the Republic Act 11332. (NNLuces-PIAV)
