Davao Occidental public transpo drivers to get financial assistance

DAVAO CITY, March 20 (PIA) - Drivers of public transportation in Davao Occidental will be among the recipients of financial assistance from DUMPER PTDA Partylist through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

In an aim to aid the transportation sector in the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the partylist maximizes the community-based package of assistance under the Department of Labor and Employment. 

The TUPAD assistance provides emergency employment for a minimum of 10 days but will not exceed 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

This initiative of DUMPER PTDA Partylist under the leadership of Congresswoman Claudine Diana “Dendee” Bautista, "will benefit the habal-habal and tricycle drivers who have temporarily lost their livelihood due to the enhanced community quarantine in Davao Region." 

On its Facebook post, DUMPER PTDA Partylist said that it hopes "to extend financial aid to other provinces in Davao Region to bring relief to our public transportation drivers who are greatly affected in this global crisis."

As of yesterday, Congresswoman Bautista along with 53 colleagues in the Partylist Coalition Foundation, Inc., has started distributing medical supplies to more than 29 hospitals in the country. 

Meanwhile, Executive Assistant to the Governor, Marivic Hubac said that the Provincial Health Office continues the strict monitoring of the quarantine of patients under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUMs). 

As of Wednesday (March 18), Hubac said that there have been two (2) reported PUIs and 167 PUMs in the province. 

She said that only residents and workers of Davao Occidental are allowed entry in the province as part of the preemptive community quarantine. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
