DOH 6 reports 2 more COVID positive cases in WV

ILOILO CITY, March 25 (PIA6) - - The Department of Health-Center for Health Development VI (DOH-CHD VI) on March 24 has confirmed two new cases, recording a total of four positive coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19)  cases Western Visayas.

DOH 6 Director Marlyn Convocar said the third case is a 61 year-old female from Iloilo City and the fourth case is a 45 year-old male from Capiz province. Both have travel history to Manila.

The third patient, who showed signs and symptoms of fever, cough, body malaise and diarrhea, is currently admitted in a health facility and reported to be in stable condition.

A known diabetic and on maintenance medications, the fourth patient also presented fever and cough. He is also admitted in a health facility and reported to be in stable condition.

Convocar said that concerned local government units and health facility were already informed about these new cases.

“Contract tracing has also been initiated,” she said in a press conference held at the lobby of the National Economic Development Authority VI.

Convocar also advised those who may have been in close contact with the positive cases to fully cooperate in contact tracing activities.

DOH, in coordination with local health authorities, will directly communicate with identified close contacts.

Close contacts are defined as those providing direct care without proper personal protective equipment for COVID 19 patients, those staying in the same close environment of COVID-19 patients within the past 14-days period, and traveling in close proximity of one meter or less with a COVID-19 patient in any kind of conveyance within the 14-day period after the onset of symptoms.

With these new cases, Convocar advised anew the public to be vigilant in protecting one’s self from the possible spread of the virus through frequent hand washing and observing respiratory etiquette, social distancing of at least one meter from another person, and infection prevention and control measures in the household.
