Vigan City gives free shuttle service for Bigueños, frontline workers

VIGAN CITY, Mar. 22 (PIA) – To ease the burden of Bigueños, the City Government of Vigan provides free shuttle service at strategic pick-up points around the city for those going to the public market to buy basic necessities while mass public transport facilities are suspended due to the enhanced community quarantine.
 
In the Executive Order (EO) No. 10 issued by City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina, it said that pick-up points shall be designated per barangay and for this purpose, the barangay officials, headed by the barangay captain, are ordered to ensure the orderly queueing and conduct of the constituents and that screening protocols have been implemented.

The EO also mandated that only one individual per household is allowed to access basic necessities while members of the vulnerable sector, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with existing comorbidities are discouraged from doing so.
 
The schedule of the shuttle loops is from 6a.m. to 3p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Raois Loop, Camangaan Loop and Ayusan Loop and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Mindoro Loop, Pantay Loop and Salindeg Loop.
 

For purposes of public health and safety, the Vigan Public Market shall only have one entry and exit point – that area fronting the Partas Bus Terminal (between Module I and II). Individuals accessing basic necessities shall be ferried to and from this area. According to Vigan City Information Officer Anna Barbara Angelica Labelle Medina, the city government have allotted nine shuttle services for this purpose.
 

The Department of Public Works and Highways-Ilocos Sur 1st District Engineering Office also extended its help by offering two service vehicles of the district to be used as transport service of the healthcare workers of the City Health Office and the staff of the City General Services Office going to the public market to check the operations of their shuttle services provided for the public. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Ilocos Sur 1st District Engineering Office also extended its help by offering two service vehicles of the district to be used as transport service of the healthcare workers of the City Health Office and the staff of the City General Services Office going to the public market to check the operations of their shuttle services provided for the public.
 
As part of the preventive measures against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), strict social distancing is being practice while inside the shuttles and in the waiting areas or pick-up points.
