CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, March 20 (PIA) – Mayor Oscar S. Moreno has pushed for a joint community quaratine with the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon to have harmonized and calibrated steps to fight coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“We are taking a conservative view that we are worried of the reported death even though the two who expired, including the previous one, are not from Cagayan de Oro City. In circumstances like this, I feel there is a need for community quarantine. But having a community quarantine limited only to Cagayan de Oro will not only be an operational nightmare but also disregarding reality,” Mayor Moreno said during the daily press conference at his office.
Moreno expressed his worries for other neighboring municipalities such as Opol and Tagoloan which are depending on Cagayan de Oro City for medical services such as hospitalization and dialysis.
In response to Mayor Moreno's call, Misamis Oriental Governor Yvegeny Vincente Emano acceded to work with "the city government in whatever capacity and whatever it needs" assuring that the provincial government is there.
"Ever since, when I give my word it’s my bond. So, DOH can be pretty certain, I told Director Adriano Suba-an that I will work with the city government in whatever capacity and whatever they need, certainly the provincial government will be there,” Governor Emano said.
He also added that in times like this, unity amongst leaders of the province of Misamis Oriental and its nearby cities are needed to surpass the threat that COVID-19 poses to their constituents.
The city government of Cagayan de Oro City was placed under community quarantine per executive order no. 049-2020 issued by Mayor Moreno late Thursday afternoon, March 19.
Though there are still no CoViD 19 positive related deaths in the city, the mayor still opted to place the city under community quarantine to protect the residents from the disease following the death of two PUIs who were later found to have died of severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), and not of COVID-19.
