ZamboSur placed under state of calamity, enhanced community quarantine

PAGADIAN CITY, March 20 (PIA)—Governor Victor J. Yu declared the entire province under state of calamity and enhanced community quarantine as the government try to find ways to contain the fast spreading coronavirus disease 2029 (COVID-19).

Yu signed executive order (EO) No. 2020-09  declaring the entire province under state of calamity and enhanced community quarantine and took effect at 12:00 o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, March 19.

Yu announced the new directive following a meeting on Wednesday afternoon with the provincial COVID-19 task force and the municipal mayors at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) office at the provincial government center, barangay Dao here.

Yu said as of March 18,  the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported that there are 28 persons under investigation (PUIs), four(4) of whom are admitted at the isolation facility and 3,359 are persons under monitoring (PUMs) in the entire province despite the implementation of community quarantine.

The governor said the significant increase of the number of  PUMs and PUIs poses a serious problem thus, it is imperative for the provincial government to act swiftly to protect the health of the community.

The new measure is a stringent and broader version of a community quarantine which was earlier enforced in the province.

Yu said under the enhanced community quarantine, all persons will be subjected to strict home quarantine,  no movement and no transportation, except only for frontline health workers, patients, authorized government officials and employees, as well as transport of basic services and necessities.

The salient features of the EO include the following: Mass and religious gatherings shall be suspended; land, sea, air travel of uniformed personnel , government officers and members of Task Force COVID-19 for official business ,especially those transporting medical supplies, laboratory specimens related to the COVID-19, and other humanitarian assistance shall be allowed; movement of cargoes within and into Zamboanga del Sur shall be unhampered; and a province-wide curfew shall be implemented by the local government units (LGUs).

All persons who will violate the EO maybe subjected to criminal or administrative prosecution if warranted under existing laws.

The governor said as the new directive is strictly implemented, he appealed to the public for their kind understanding and to keep calm saying that the ultimate goal of his administration is to save lives of the people. (/NBEGCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
