KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Mar. 27 (PIA) – All households in the municipality of Tboli in South Cotabato will receive family food packs from the local government unit, Mayor Dibu Tuan said.
Mayor Tuan told Philippine Information Agency 12 that they have fast-tracked the packing of more than 23,000 food packs to be handed out to all households in its 25 barangays the soonest in response to the enforcement of the provincial government-ordered enhanced community quarantine and calibrated total lockdown.
Each food pack contains 5 kilograms of rice, canned goods, and instant noodles from the LGU and canned fruits donated by DOLE Philippines.
The LGU has planned the distribution of family food packs to ensure that mass gathering and long queues are avoided, he said.
“Our distribution teams will go to the barangays and give the family packs house-to-house. Our residents have been advised to stay in their respective houses and wait for the distribution team. This is in line with our effort to maintain social distancing and prohibit people from gathering,” he said.
Mayor Tuan also clarified that the current reief operation is only the first wave of assistance for residents of Tboli.
“In a recent meeting with municipal and city mayors, Governor Tamayo promised that the provincial government will take charge of the second and subsequent relief operations. We hope the Department of Social Welfare and Development will also help,” Mayor Tuan said.
For the current relief operation, LGU Tboli and the barangay councils have earmarked close to P8 million from their disaster relief funds. (DED-PIA-XII)
