BAGUIO CITY, Mar. 24 (PIA) - - The City Health Services Office reiterates the city government’s call for strict compliance to the enhanced community quarantine to control and prevent local transmission of the disease amid confirmation the first COVID case in the city.
Dr. Donnabel Tubera Panes, Baguio HSO Epidemiology Surveillance Unit head, in a Department of Health - led media briefing here Monday, confirmed that the first positive COVID case in the city is a 61 - year old female overseas worker in Italy who came home last March 2.
Contact tracing of people with possible close contact with the patient is also already done by the city government, Panes said.
As of 7pm, March 22, there are 23 Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) admitted in different hospitals in Baguio City. Some 137 PUIs with travel history to COVID - affected areas, locally and abroad, who are manifesting mild symptoms are also under home quarantine. There are also 1,929 Persons Under Monitoring who are advised to strictly adhere to home quarantine who are being monitored by health workers.
Panes also reiterated the city government’s appeal for the cooperation of the Baguio people in the community quarantine and enhanced contact tracing being implemented.
“Let us not underestimate the virus and its spread. The mayor is on top of the situation and the city is implementing stringent measures. The enhanced community quarantine and the enhanced contact tracing is the only effective public health measure against COVID”, she stressed.
The City Government of Baguio started its community Quarantine last March 13, ahead of the Luzon wide enhanced community quarantine and 24 hour curfew is already being implemented, wherein only one person per household allowed to buy food supplies and essential medicines is allowed but must strictly adhere to the social distancing rule and on wearing of protective mask at all times.
In partnership with the Philippine National Police and the different barangays, stricter measures are also being implemented for the use of personal vehicles and the barangay designated public utility vehicles. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
