Digos City LGU orders 30,000 improvised face masks for frontliners

DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, March 20 (PIA) - Digos City Mayor Josef Cagas has ordered 30,000 improvised face masks for health workers, Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs), as well as public transportation workers in the city.

The recipients of the face masks also include members of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Task Force and workers of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CDRRMO) workers.

On his Facebook post yesterday, Cagas said that he requested for the personal protective equipment (PPE) for the COVID-19 frontliners, but lamented that even face masks and alcohol were hard to find.

He reiterated to his constituents that the LGU has been trying its best to plan out and do what’s needed to be done to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the city.

The mayor expressed gratitude to those who gave suggestions, and even those who criticized, on the appropriate things to do.

As suggested, he said that the LGU may extend food assistance such as rice and canned goods, but added that because of budget constraint, the assistance will be prioritized to those most in need.

Cagas has also appealed to his constituents to obey simple rules such as to stay at home and observe social distancing and personal hygiene like proper hand washing, as protection against COVID-19.

The mayor asked the residents to ensure that their family members follow the rules on prohibitions on public gatherings, limitations on going out from home, and on curfew hours.

He said they are receptive and open to suggestions, but without having to make harsh comments and ridicule the city government.

As of 11:30am today (March 20), Digos City Health Office has recorded 23 patients under investigation (PUIs), 16 of them continue to undergo home quarantine, seven have been cleared and none was admitted.

The number of persons under monitoring (PUM), has reached to 504. Of this figure, 448 are undergoing home quarantine and 56 were cleared. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
