Mayor Sara lauds private sector in efforts to contain COVID-19

DAVAO CITY March 18, 2020 (PIA) - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio lauded several private business establishments for closing their operation in the city due to the spread of the Corona Virus Disease 2019, but promised to support their employees.

Interviewed by the Disaster Radio of Davao City, she cited the Harana and Sarungbanggi which are owned by the Lizada Family for giving support to the affected workers of the restaurants despite the closed shop.

Duterte-Carpio also revealed that the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) congregation also pledged to stop their religious rites in all its churches and chapels in Davao City.

She wished that the INC will abide to stop its religious activities in all churches and chapels in Davao Region.

“It is not a infringement on your religion but a preventive measure against the spread of the COVID 2019.  I even urge you to continue to pray that we will ward off this challenge besetting the world now,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio urged the members of the INC to continue their faith without religious gathering. She also called on the members of the New People’s Army not to roam around but stay where they are.

Duterte-Carpio also thanked the Islamic faithful for supporting the efforts of the city government to control the spread of the COVID 2019. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
